Children's Choir...
The children have been learning songs during
Methodist Melodies on Wednesday evenings that
they will be singing on Sunday, October 3 at the
10:55am worship service.
We ask that for that Sunday, all participating children be in Sunday school no later than 9:45. During the Sunday school hour, Becky Palmer will escort the children to the hand bell room at the appropriate time, where they will practice their songs prior to worship. All the children will process in at the beginning of the service. After the processional, the youngest children will sit with their parents until they are invited forward for Children’s Moments. Following their singing, they will be dismissed to Little Lights. All children that have participated in the Wednesday night activities these past 6-weeks are encouraged to attend.
Our next 6-weeks of the Wednesday Night Supper & Study are scheduled for October 13 through November 17. We hope all will participate and bring others. There is something for all ages.

Worship Committee...
Dear St. John's family,
The Worship Committee met on Tuesday evening, and there are several areas where we need your help:
1.We are looking for an assistant Acolyte mother to help Debbie Bryant with the Acolytes' Duties.
2. We are looking for someone to help decorate the bulletin board in the main hallway by the Church office. This is to be changed about every 6 to 8 weeks.
3. We need some of you to sign up on the flower calendar---there are about 10-12 vacant spots that need to be filled for the remainder of this year. Remember that these flowers are delivered to the hospital, shut-ins, etc. It's a wonderful ministry!
4. If you have any extra vases that need to be returned to the church, please do so, or if you would like to donate some to the church, we would appreciate it very much!
5. We are still looking for someone to help with Media Shout for the 8:30 am service
6. And finally, looking ahead........ we will need help with decorating the Sanctuary for the Advent season.
As you can see, there are MANY areas where we need your help, so I am asking you to Please Pray about this and if you feel called by God to fill any of these areas, PLEASE let me or one of our Pastors know!! We really need your help!!! This is how we are going to keep St. John's going strong!! I know that we can accomplish much if we all work together for God's Kingdom. I'll be waiting to hear from you! Thanks to all of you and God Bless You!
Love in Christ,
Lisa Webb, Worship Chair

From the Pastor..
For more than 40 years, Annie Johnson Flint experienced hardly a day free from pain. Indeed, throughout 37 years she became increasingly helpless. But in spite of (or perhaps because of) handicaps, she produced poetry, which has blessed multitudes and continues to be greatly used. Annie lost her mother when she was three years old and her father not many years after that. She was adopted by the Flint family and grew up in a godly home where love reigned.
After high school, Annie attended college, and then taught at a normal school. But alas, in her second year, arthritis began to develop. It worsened until she became an invalid living in a sanitarium. Her biographer writes: “With a pen pushed through bent fingers and held by swollen joints she wrote. Her verses provided a solace for her in the long hours of suffering.”
One of her most beloved poems has great meaning for us during this month of September as we share our faith and invite others to worship with us at Church.
“God has no hands but our hands to do his work today.
He has no feet but our feet to lead men in his way.
He has no tongue but our tongue to tell men how he died.
He has no help but our help to bring them to His side.
We are the only Bible the careless world will read;
We are the sinner’s Gospel; we are the scoffer’s creed;
We are the Lord’s last message, written in deed and word---
What if the line is crooked? What if the type is blurred?
What if our hands are busy with other work than His?
What if our feet are walking where sin’s allurement is?
What if our tongues are speaking of things His lips would spurn?
How can we hope to help Him unless from Him we learn?”

Youth...
After a fun-filled summer, I would like to welcome all the children and youth back to school. I am praying for a positive and successful school year for all of you. However as the summer comes to an end, I have been reflecting with gratitude for the work the Lord has been doing in all of our lives. New things have been happening this summer with the St. John’s Youth, but one of the most exciting is the redesign of our youth room located on the top floor of the lighthouse. The youth would like to give a big thank you to everyone who helped us in this endeavor. We love our new area! Please stop by to check it out if you have yet to do so. We also were given the opportunity to attend the Youth Convo in Biloxi, as well as participate in a mission project in Yazoo City.
With an exciting summer behind us, we begin this fall with a busy schedule. We will still be meeting on Wednesday nights at 5:00 for Bible study/missions, and we also meet for regular youth meetings on Sunday nights at 5:00. Just a few reminders: I need volunteers to provide the youth with a Sunday night meal, please sign up on the youth office door. Also I am currently looking for a new teacher for the Senior High Sunday Sunday_School Class, as well as chaperones for various trips and activities. In October, some of our youth will be attending Spiritual Life Retreats located at Camp Lake Stephens in Oxford, MS. This will require chaperones for these overnight trips on October16th and 17th and 23rd and 24th. Lastly we will be holding our annual stockholder’s supper on October 17th at 5:00 p.m. We are excited to share with all of you our experiences so far in the year.
If you have any questions about any of the youth’s events, activities, or you are interested in helping out please contact me.
Thank you all for your support of the youth program; you are truly a blessing to us.
John Warren
